$12.5 million in grants supporting social justice organizations

San Francisco, CA – In the final docket of 2019, The Libra Foundation approved $12.5 million in grants to organizations led by and for those most impacted by systemic injustice–largely low-income communities of color–that are building power through grassroots community organizing to tackle society’s most pressing problems.

The Foundation’s latest docket includes $8.7 million to existing grantee partners and $3.8 million to 41 organizations new to the Foundation. This brings The Libra Foundation’s total 2019 giving to an all-time high of $25 million.

“As we enter 2020, we in philanthropy must get real about investing in power-building,” said Crystal Hayling, Executive Director of The Libra Foundation. “The groups in this latest docket are ensuring communities have the resources they need to build a better future where we can all be free, healthy and thriving.”

The Libra Foundation funds in the areas of criminal justice and social justice, environmental and climate justice, and gender justice. 

The Foundation taps into the wisdom of networks by funding organizations that are in deep partnership with one another. This docket was shaped by recommendations from existing grantee partners, other social justice funders, and movement leaders.
