The Libra Foundation approves $10.2 million in grants for social justice organizations

San Francisco, CA – In the first half of 2021, The Libra Foundation has approved $10,215,000 million in unrestricted grants supporting 52 organizations building political power, determining their own strategies and implementing their own solutions, and realizing futures that work for all. This slate includes grant renewals and 16 new grants, focusing on groups led by and for BIPOC and directly impacted communities.

“Our role is to help sustain and support the remarkable vision, power and strategy of frontline groups,” said Crystal Hayling, the Executive Director of The Libra Foundation. “We are glad to provide continuous support as we begin to emerge from the COVID-19 crisis, which hit communities of color the hardest.”

Last year, Libra announced it was doubling its grantmaking to $50 million, and launched the Democracy Frontlines Fund, an aligned giving strategy that leveraged $36 million in multi-year, unrestricted support for a slate of 10 Black-led racial justice organizations. In 2021, this support continues while the twelve funders in the Democracy Frontlines Fund have embarked together on a multi-year learning journey around racial justice in philanthropy.
